Shaw's early career was meteoric. He broke records as a 15-year-old, captained India to an Under-19 World Cup victory at 18, and scored a century on his Test debut. However, this rapid success was followed by a period of distractions and loss of focus.
He admitted to making poor decisions and losing the discipline that had propelled him to stardom. This led to skipping practice and prioritizing the wrong things, resulting in him being dropped from the Mumbai Ranji team and going unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.
During this challenging time, Sachin Tendulkar, a legend who had known Shaw since childhood, offered unwavering support.
"Sachin sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too. Hardly 2 month ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too. I spoke to him then too," Shaw revealed in an interview with News24.
Tendulkar's advice was simple but powerful: "'Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha' (Come back on the same track as earlier)." Shaw said. "He still believes in me. He said 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'. Because he has seen me grow up... Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot."
These words of encouragement have given Shaw renewed hope.
Now 25, Shaw is determined to revive his career. He has made the decision to leave Mumbai cricket and join Maharashtra, seeking a fresh start. Open about his past mistakes, he is working hard to rebuild his game.
Whether this marks a complete comeback remains to be seen, but Shaw is confronting his challenges head-on. With the backing of legends like Sachin Tendulkar, he has a genuine opportunity for redemption and a return to form.
