Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series. "We are delighted to confirm Sri Lanka's visit to Zimbabwe for what we expect to be a thrilling and competitive series," he stated.
The T20I leg of the tour holds particular significance for Zimbabwe as it precedes the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final. This crucial tournament, hosted by Zimbabwe starting September 19, presents their opportunity to secure a coveted spot in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2027.
Makoni further emphasized the importance of the series in Zimbabwe's preparation for the global qualifier: "Matches between our two nations have always produced entertaining cricket and this tour comes at a crucial time for our team as we prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign."
This series is part of a busy schedule for Zimbabwe, as they are also set to host South Africa and New Zealand for two-match Test series. A T20I tri-series featuring all three nations is also planned during this period.
