X Corp., formerly known as Twitter, has recently taken action against over 500,000 accounts in India for violating its platform policies. These bans occurred between January 26th and February 25th, according to reports.
Elon Musk's X platform suspends numerous Indian accounts.
The primary reason for these account suspensions was the promotion of child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity. The platform banned 506,173 accounts for these violations. Additionally, X suspended 1,982 accounts for promoting terrorism.
In total, X banned 508,155 accounts in India during the specified period. The platform also received approximately 14,421 complaints from Indian users through its grievance redressal mechanisms. Furthermore, around 41 requests were made regarding account suspensions.
X Corp. addressed the account suspensions, stating, "We overturned 1 of these account suspensions after reviewing the specifics of the situation. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended."
The company also mentioned receiving 71 requests related to general account inquiries during this reporting period.
This action is consistent with X's ongoing efforts to enforce its policies. In the preceding period, from December 26th to January 25th, the platform banned approximately 231,215 accounts in India and 1,945 accounts for promoting terrorism.
To avoid account suspension on X, users should refrain from violating the platform's policies, particularly those related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.
