ChatGPT Suffers Global Disruption: Service Restored
ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot, experienced a global outage, leaving many users unable to access the service. Downdetector, a website that tracks outages, reported a surge in user reports indicating accessibility issues with the OpenAI chatbot.
According to reports, approximately 91% of users encountered problems while trying to use ChatGPT. Around 7% of users were unable to access the website altogether, while the remaining users struggled to log into their accounts.
The outage prompted users to take to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to voice their frustration and report the disruption.
OpenAI's Response
OpenAI acknowledged the outage through its official status page. The company identified the issue as "increased latency and errors affecting both ChatGPT and APIs."
The good news is that the service has since been restored. According to the OpenAI Status page, the latency issue has been resolved, and "Performance is now back to normal."
The TOI Tech team independently verified the restoration by accessing ChatGPT through both the website and the mobile app. In both instances, ChatGPT appeared to be functioning correctly without any noticeable issues.
