Prabath Jayasuriya celebrates another five-wicket haul.

Prabath Jayasuriya claimed his 12th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

Bangladesh began the fourth day at 115 for six, still trailing by 97 runs. Hopes for a miraculous escape were quickly dashed as Sri Lanka dismantled their batting lineup.

Jayasuriya, who was wicketless in the first innings, made an immediate impact, dismissing Litton Das for 14 early in the session. Das edged the ball behind to wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis, triggering a swift collapse.

The remaining batsmen offered little resistance, succumbing to the pressure as the visitors folded before lunch, handing Sri Lanka a dominant victory. This comprehensive win not only sealed the series but also earned Sri Lanka valuable points in the World Test Championship.

Attention now turns to the limited-overs segment of the tour, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is.

The victory in Colombo stood in stark contrast to the drawn first Test in Galle. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto had scored centuries in both innings of the first test. However, the visiting team failed to replicate that performance in the second match. No Bangladesh batsman managed to score a half-century in either innings.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first on what appeared to be a favorable batting surface, Bangladesh lost their advantage, being bowled out for 247 in their first innings. Sri Lanka responded strongly, posting a total of 458 and establishing a substantial 211-run lead.

Opener Pathum Nissanka played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka's strong reply, scoring a fluent 158 – his second century of the series. Dinesh Chandimal provided valuable support with a composed 93. Their 194-run partnership for the second wicket laid the foundation for Sri Lanka's dominance.

Although Bangladesh briefly fought back, taking three quick wickets after the second new ball, Kusal Mendis steadied the innings with a counterattacking 84. He ensured that the home side remained in control.

Overall, it was a clinical performance from Sri Lanka, who outplayed Bangladesh in all aspects of the game. They secured a well-deserved series win on home soil.
