After a five-month hiatus since their last Test match, the Indian cricket team is undergoing significant changes, primarily due to the retirements of veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. As the young Indian squad prepares to face challenges on English soil, Kuldeep Yadav voices his confidence in Shubman Gill's readiness to captain the team.

"Shubman knows how to lead," Kuldeep Yadav stated. "He's gained experience under senior players, engaging in discussions with Rohit Sharma in both ODI and Test formats over the past few years. He is a motivated leader, and his strategic thinking is invaluable. He has significantly contributed to the team and uplifted our spirits. Having observed him in recent sessions, I see the qualities of senior leaders in him. He is definitely ready to lead the team."

While acknowledging Gill's capabilities, Kuldeep admitted that the team would feel the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. However, he emphasized the opportunity this presents for younger players to solidify their positions within the team.

"The absence of senior players creates a void. Virat and Rohit have contributed immensely to the team, and their importance is undeniable. However, this is an opportunity for the younger players to step up and perform. It's a chance for them to establish themselves. While their absence is felt, the youngsters are eager to take on the challenge."

Kuldeep further added, "The youngsters are aware of the challenging conditions awaiting them, but they are prepared. The practice sessions reflect their dedication, with batsmen spending considerable time honing their skills."

Regarding the intra-squad match between India and India A, played behind closed doors in Beckenham, Kuldeep shared insights.

"The top-order batsmen from both teams displayed excellent form. The seam bowlers also impressed. Shardul Thakur bowled exceptionally well in the first innings, while the senior fast bowlers performed well in the second. Overall, the squad's performance was commendable."

Acknowledging England's seam-friendly conditions, Kuldeep explained the mindset of a spinner in such environments, expressing his satisfaction with the ball's turn during practice sessions.

"It's crucial to have the right mindset. If the weather remains sunny, as it has been for the past few days, and the wickets behave accordingly, it will favor the spinners. I don't usually focus much on the conditions, but a helpful wicket is always a bonus."

"On the first day of the practice match, the wicket had some moisture, assisting the seamers. However, as the game progressed, the ball started bouncing. Initially, I didn't observe much turn during my first spell. Today is Day 3, and after bowling today, I'll have a better understanding of the wicket. But in all the practice sessions, the ball has been turning slightly. If this continues, I'm hopeful for the Test matches as well."
